After 2 weeks of walking, with a couple days of cardio, I decided to throw some dumbbells into the mix. A few reps of lunges and squats with 5 pound weights, and I have weak# wobbly Jello legs. I'm half expecting for my legs to crumple beneath me and to fall over spectacularly the next time I get up to walk around the office.
It feels really funny, but I'm also excited. I've done bodyweight exercises in the past, but I have never used dumbbells before. It's good to get out of my comfort zone.
I still plan to take my afternoon walk, assuming my legs have started to recover by then, but I'll probably take it nice and gentle. As much as I'd love to really takeoff with my workouts, I'm not aiming for burnout here, and even though it's only been a few years, I'm not as young as I was the last time I tried getting in shape, and I'm noticing my recovery times are longer than when I was 20.
That's fine. Fitness doesn't happen in a day, anyway. I'll get strong at my own pace. The important thing is to keep working.
