Progress measured in many ways

Friday, August 31, 2018

Most of us probably measure our progress by the number on the scales. Stepping on the scales immediately after peeing is part of my daily morning ritual. And that number can set my mood for the day. So when my weight fluctuated but did not really go down much during the entire month of August I was feeling dejected. Then I realised there were other ways to measure progress. The way my clothes fit. Being able to get into clothes that were too tight for years, even decades. Having to buy a drawer full of new knickers because the old ones were too big. Being able to wear dresses in summer without thighs rubbing together and chafing until they bleed. My wedding ring is now so loose I was afraid I was going to lose it, and I had to add a second smaller ring to the same finger. And of course the many compliments, as the difference has become visible, even palpable in my face, as my beautician said during my regular facial. So if you are feeling discouraged because the scales seem stuck on the same number for a long time, see what other ways of measuring progress there may be.
