How do you get to sleep?

Friday, August 24, 2018

I just don’t seem to sleep! Melatonin works for 2 hours...hen I waken, restoril holds me for 4 hours. I get loads of exercise, do everything right, but am such a poor sleeper.

    Me, too, my friend.
I just weaned off of ambien after about ten years, at my docs insistence as I am now 66 and they don’t know how it affects the elder brain.... still take melatonin and now one trazodone, which is an anti-depressant but makes ones sleepy.
I follow all the rules for good sleep hygiene.
I do have bad hips and wake up whenever I roll over.
I spend 9-10hours in bed in order to get about 8 hours of sleep.
I got a little white noise machine ($20-30 on Amazon) that helps mask the road noise we have at our new house.
    Good luck!

I use a sound machine, it's very soothing.

Google "sleep hygiene". The only thing that works for me is having good sleep hygiene plus going to bed and getting up at the same time every day, even weekends.

I shut off all electronics a couple of hours ahead of sleep time. Valerian root works well on nights when I have trouble sleeping.
