Making Camping Memories

"The crickets felt it was their duty to warn everybody that summertime cannot last for ever. Even on the most beautiful days in the whole year -- the days when summer is changing into autumn -- the crickets spread the rumor of sadness and change." from Charlotte's Web.
Friday evening we sat around the fire ring and listened to the loud noise of crickets. When my kids were in school, this always signaled school would start soon. My DH told the kids stories of his work around the fire. The one that brought the most laughs was this: While working underground in the mines, they use to see rats. He was having his lunch one day and was just finishing with his cookie. A rat came leaping over his hand, grabbed his cookie, and kept going. He threw something at it, but missed.
Saturday, we all did some tye dying. DH and I tye-died a tee shirt. Was the first time we did something like that together. DD's family tye-died, too. Except the youngest, she did a permanent maker drawing on a shirt. In the evening, the family hosted an ice cream social. I shouldn't have, but went back for an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream. That ice cream was so good!
Wonderful time with DD's family. Always enjoy time with the grands!
