Self Love and Self Care

So there has been alot on my blog of self love and care and really the importance of each in relation to self, relationships and weight. How can a person really truly want to lose weight/maintain the loss and more if they have an unhealthy value of self worth towards themselves.

We all suffer from different versions of low self-esteem and loss of self-worth, but domestic violence survivors (yes that is what you/who you are a survivor) have a warped sense of self-worth and value due to months/years of different forms of abuse such as verbal/emotional/psychological
/physical/sexual/and financial (these are all the different facets of domestic abuse/violence). It will take years and therapy to help learn healthy coping mechanisms.

The bottom line is Self-Care and Self-Love will help in all these situations and more. Lets take a little look into the differences of each and how they will help you and me with this struggle of weight loss.

Self-love includes self-care, but self-care alone only addresses the physical. Self-love is about inclusion of the whole person – the mind, body and Spirit.

The best to visualize this would self-care is the food we eat to stay healthy. Self-Love would be the breakdown of the food and the nutrients feeding and helping the organs, circulatory system, endocrine system, vascular and vein systems to keep us moving, loving, kind to our neighbors, helpful and more.

There really isn't a set path for anyone to follow, like therapy. Some things will work and somethings won't. That's the joy of self-care/love...it's for you and only you. Mold it, shape it, tweak it, till you find what it is that you need and what works for you. You can also use these techniques with therapy. If your going to go that route be sure to talk to your therapist of what goals you would like to work on and where you want to be in your healing.

I say this, because we are all healing. Words do hurt and poor self image does start at a young age. Having been overweight for so long, I know how some of you here on sparkpeople feel. I think this why we have the community we have. WE KNOW and WE FEEL the same. It's been a long road for some and to help kick of the spirit of Self-Love/Care...I end with this!

Congratulations, I'm so proud of you. You are finally putting yourself first and doing what ever you can to lose the weight. Having a bad day? You know what it's ok to not feel ok. We are here, we love you and hope that the next will be better and brighter for you. You finally made your goal Awesome...keep it up. Again I'm so proud of you and your journey.
