Natural Woman, sung by Aretha Franklin

Looking out on the morning rain
I used to feel so uninspired
And when I knew I had to face another day
Lord, it made me feel so tired
Before the day I met you, life was so unkind
But your the key to my peace of mind.

Because you make me feel,
You make me feel,
You make me feel like
A natural woman.

When my soul was in the lost and found
You came along to claim it
I didn't know just what was wrong with me
Until your kiss helped me name it
Now I'm no longer doubtful, of what I'm living for
And if I make you happy, I don't need to do more.

Because you make me feel,
You make me feel,
You make me feel like
A natural woman.

Oh, baby, what you've done to me
You made me feel so good inside
And I, I just want to be, so close to you
You make me feel so alive.

You make me feel,
You make me feel,
You make me feel like
A natural woman.

You know you, you make me feel
You make me feel
like a natural woman.

(The hit song written by Carole King and husband-writing partner Gerry Goffin in 1967 specifically for Aretha Franklin.)

This is my favorite Aretha song, because it means a lot to me. The opening verse reminds me so much of my "migraine days," when it's raining (which causes migraines for me) and just how difficult it is to even get out of bed those days. The rest of the song reminds me of my hubby. I met him when I was just 15, and certainly life had been rather unkind to me up to that point, having lost both of my parents by then and having a chaotic home life. His love really saved me from a lot of things back then, and many times throughout my life, and he always gives me hope for better days ahead. The line that "if I make you happy I don't need to do more," is such a comfort to me, because there are days when I really can get nothing done because of migraines, or when the problems of life are just overwhelming. But if at the end of the day, I can talk with my hubby and we can just be together and share a moment of happiness, then I don't need to do more, and it's a good day. Every time I hear this song, it brings tears to my eyes, and gratitude to my heart.

That's a really great reason to love a song. Sorry you suffer so badly with migraines. I know how incapacitating they can be having suffered myself for years. I don't use studs but they must be worth a shot to see if they help.

I loved reading about your love story with hubby. emoticon This is such a memorable song. I cannot say that there is an Aretha Franklin song that I DID NOT like. She definitely was the Queen of Soul and will be missed.

Wow, you have a very meaningful story! That's so special. I can see how it would help you to hear this, and it does sound like she's singing about you! I like how she sings the song, she makes it sound so pretty. Personally, though, it's never really struck a chord because it's a love song and I haven't really been in love yet. I always admire people that have a list of love songs that they can think of as their songs. It's so sweet! Well, there is one song I like though, like that, that they used to play at a lot of weddings by the group Wet Wet Wet, but I can't remember the name of the song. It's a 90s song, that's when I was in my late teens/early twenties. Like I wrote on your status, I really don't remember Aretha Franklin very well. But now I feel challenged, and I'm going to go in Spotify and try to listen to all of her songs, and then I will get back to you about which one is my favorite!

P.S. To post a "live link" that will work when someone clicks on it, without needing to do anything else, you have to either click on the button at the top that says "Add A Link" and paste that URL address into the box. If you can see it in the box, erase the "s" after "http". Otherwise go ahead and post that link and you can erase the "s" after it's on your page. Another way of going about it is to add the HTML code yourself before and after the link address. But you still need to erase the "s". I can't post the code, because SparkPeople won't let me. They don't like that in comments. But if you see it often enough, you'll probably memorize it, and doing it yourself might even be faster for you. It depends on how great a typist you are!

Love your post! I hope you're starting to feel some relief from your migraines. I know they can be debilitating and make daily life come to a standstill for many people. You're so lucky to have your sweet hubby beside you, making and sharing memories! You're in my prayers. Have a great weekend! emoticon

Yes, Aretha Franklin sure could belt this out. Being from the Motor City and having grown up listening to her music, this was one of my favorites also. Her Pink Cadillac was also a fun favorite of mine, because being here in the Motor City, you would see pink Cadillacs.

Sorry you suffer so much from migraine headaches. Wish there was something someone could do. I had a co-worker that had them too, and suffered so much. She was on all kinds of meds and it just was just painful to see her suffer daily. So finally she went and had a piercing done in her ear, they put a stud in, which was a miracle cure for her. She said it hurt like crazy for the moment, then it stopped and so did her headaches. She's been pain free for over 5 years now. Have you ever tried acupuncture for your headaches? I know most people don't believe in it, but it does actually work for somethings.

Just a suggestion. Hope you feel good, as we have rain here today.
