The last one...

Tuesday, August 14, 2018

Sooo, Sparkfam...last week was ridiculously hard. On Saturday, Aug. 4th, my youngest sister drove she and my niece 3 hrs from Vegas to S. CA to an ER near our mom’s house because she had a wound in her pelvic region that had refused to heal and had become infected. Once there, after being seen by the ER doctor, she learned she had full-blown diabetes and that her blood sugar had been elevated for some time which is why a simple scratch had ballooned into an abscess the size of a hamburger bun. She was admitted to the hospital early Sunday (8/5) morning. Last Thursday, my dad fell and broke his hip. He has been a diabetic most of his adult life and 12/26/97 he had both of his legs amputated due to complications related to his disease. A few years ago both my mom and middle sister were diagnosed with diabetes as well. I have also had several relatives die because they refused to heed genetics and take care of themselves. And while I still have 20 lbs on me of the original 77 lbs I lost back in 2013, and my diet is far from perfect, I (and my doctors over the last decade) are certain that my overall weightloss to date, diet and active lifestyle are what’s saving me from joining countless relatives, including my entire immediate family. Yet...Never have I felt a greater sense of urgency. So self, not that you were EFFing around before but it’s time to step up your game cuz this disease ain’t no joke and it’s coming for you whether you believe or not. And it plays for keeps. So whatchu gon’ do about it?
