This morning I was at my secretary desk sifting through the pile of junk mail that had accumulated. Houdini thinks whenever the secretary table portion is open he should be allowed to explore, so I opened the upper cabinet for him. Shorty decided to join the party.
We went to an estate sale that was 50% off for the last day of the sale and found this adorable little sewing hutch for $10 which we will restore to match our Hoosier. Tom will strip off the old varnish and glue a small portion of the top where it is lifting. I will apply the white enamel and new knobs in either nickel or chrome.
A couple of the pegs that hold thread are missing. I do not plan on using that as a thread holder anyway as the cats would be able to access the spools from underneath. That drawer will be unused. The top drawer will hold cookie cutters, measuring spoons, etc. and I will either put my cook books or my stand mixer on the top to free up space for canisters on the hoosier. Canisters on the table top itself would be too inviting for Houdini to test gravity with.
We went to the local fruit and vegetable market and picked up yellow and red peppers, and crimini mushrooms to go with the ground beef and fresh tomatoes for pasta sauce. We also picked up some garlic bread to make in the air fryer.
Dinner will be simple and delicious, and enough to last for 3 days at least.
