A hard day...

Friday, August 10, 2018

I ended up taking a little trip by ambulance to the ER yesterday, as I passed out in my apartment... repeatedly. When I called my primary doctor office, they were like “just call 911!” I figured the trip would be pretty futile, since I have a virus, and they can’t do much for a virus, but whatever... the doctor office said call, so I called... turns out the diagnosis for yesterday was dehydration as a result of the darn virus complicated by an atypical migraine... I was only in the ER about 4 hours while they pumped in fluids, compazine, meclizine, imitrex... yep, I am a chemical stew. And the interesting little tidbit the doctor in the ER gave me was that this virus will probably run 4 weeks, as I am immune compromised. Sigh. Anyway, when I got home from the ER I called both my primary doctor office and my neurologist to give them a heads up as to what’s going on. My neurologist office called back within the hour (my primary didn’t call back) and asked me all sorts of questions, then said they were concerned and they wanted me to come in for an infusion... at 8:30 this morning! I haven’t been able to eat solid “real” food in over week, and it’s getting tedious, not to mention it’s difficult to get enough calories (in fact I know I am not, considering the sadistic puppy likes to walk 5-6 miles a day), much less nutrients... I am trying, really hard, but some days I feel worse and all I can deal with is chicken broth and jello... like I said... not a lot of nutrition... lol... sigh... I am doing my best, but I think my best right now means being a sloth (not that the sadistic puppy will let me)... but life likely won’t let me do that in general. I think it would drive me bonkers anyways! Sitting still is no longer a skill I am very good at. .., speaking of the sadistic puppy... he is looking and acting like he wants to go out... at 2:45am... ugh... I love my dog, I love my dog, I love my dog... really I do...

Fluids, fluids, fluids! Or you could compromise your kidney functions. Sip, sip, sip, not gulp, gulp, or you could puke. Hope you feel better soon.

Wishing you all the best and hope that this virus stuff starts to calm down for you. Being dehydrated is not fun, and certainly doesn't make you feel any better.

Please take care of yourself the best you can, and that Cooper dog understands you're just not feeling good right now.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Can you stay at your dads till this thingy is over? Much as I love seeing and reading about cooper dog, you can't walk alone if you are passing out. Will sure keep you in my prayers, but you sure do need physical help

I’m so sorry you are going through all this. Being immune compromised makes us super susceptible to every bug that goes around. I wish I was closer so I could help with Cooper. Continuing prayers for you! emoticon emoticon

Oh my goodness...how scary for you! Get something nutritious to drink and take care.... a dear friend had the virus and ended up in the hospital for 2 days with severe dehydration and almost in renal failure....and this was with drinking Gatorade and water. Glad that you are seeing your neurologist!

Sooo sorry, but it does prove doctors do know a thing or two--better to listen to them. Hope the virus stops draining you soon.

I hope that you are feeling better sooner than 4 weeks! I agree with previous posts, get some Boost or protein powder. It will give you some nutrients and help you feel stronger. Best wishes!

This is one of the situations where Ensure can fill in for you. That's pretty much what tube fed patients get as 100% of their nutrition.

Ugh. Miserable. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this illness passes faster than 4 weeks.

I hope you feel better soon. It makes for a crappy summer among other things. I agree with Cheririddell, maybe see if your Dad can walk Cooper for a few days Take care Chandra. emoticon

Oh Chandra you poor girl.Do you think perhaps your Dad could take Cooper for his walks for a few days? I am a bit concerned about you walking so far given you are getting so little nourishment. Given your compromised immune system would you perhaps benefit from some hospital time as unpalatable as that may sound? Please keep us posted four weeks is a long time to feel so poorly.
