A young lady died recently in Canada and her obituary was written as a cry for "women of size" to not be "fat shamed" by medical professionals.
She has stated an excellent point too many medical professionals may only hear your description of symptoms as problems due to your body weight. It is true that obesity, especially morbid obesity can and may directly cause you to have medical problems, i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, GERD, etc. BUT, make certain that you or your caregiver provides ALL symptoms, tests results, and medical history, and ASK them to describe the problem(s)/ailment/condition, etc. and how it relates to your body.
"A final message Ellen wanted to share was about the fat shaming she endured from the medical profession. Over the past few years of feeling unwell she sought out medical intervention and no one offered any support or suggestions beyond weight loss. Ellen's dying wish was that women of size make her death matter by advocating strongly for their health and not accepting that fat is the only relevant health issue. "
