Oh, Yummy! NOT!

Sunday, August 05, 2018

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with diverticulosis, which is basically where you have little pockets or pouches in your colon. I pretty much live life normally, but every now and then it flares up and the not so fun ensues.

After doing everything the ER doctor told me to do for constipation, and the pain not going away, I pretty much figured out what the hard truth was. I was on the edge of diverticulitis, and if I didn't make a big change to my diet, I would be in worse shape.

So, today and tomorrow, I'll be on a special liquid diet. Hopefully just for today. The gist of this diet is just to give my colon a rest and allow any inflammation to subside so the pain can go away. Because, let me tell you it hurts like crazy!

Tomorrow, I'll move over to a more of a soft food diet, before being able to start reintroducing regular foods once again.

Please note that I am not doing this to lose weight. I am doing this to save and improve my quality of life. My level of pain and discomfort has deteriorated my quality of life to pretty much rock bottom again, and my emotional state actually is anger about it. So, this is me fighting back. Tomorrow morning, I am calling my GI doctor about what is happening.

Wish me luck!

It sounds llike good advise, and I know it's something you have to keep at permanently because I too have occasional flare ups of diverticulosis. Hang in there.

Not a fun condition to have. It's good you are being a bit proactive to curb the flareup. Hope it doesn't get worse.

Good for you for taking care of this proactively. There will be a lot of trial and error as you figure what works for you. Our digestive systems change over the years and we have to be realistic about what can be handled safely and with grace.

Time to find new tasty softer versions while still getting the right amount of fiber to keep things moving.

It seems to me that these flare ups always come over the weekend. Give your body the time it needs to rest. Take care
