Friday morning blessings

Friday, August 03, 2018

We got a real doozy of a storm last night. It was complete with gale force winds, thunder, lightning, and huge sheets of rain so thick, I could not see DD car parked in our driveway! IT sounded like a tornado, but it was just the rain falling so hard on the roof!

I have all the errands run, but made sure to make that deposit into one of my CD's. I won another $50, so that tells me that a lot less people kept making deposits in this particular CD, since they draw your name among everybody in our diocese that makes a deposit, every week.
For me to win so often, I think many have just stopped adding in, or withdrew their funds. I could care a lot less, since I keep winning. It is just another little drop of $$ to add to our vacation fund!
We finally went over the list of supplies to take with us. IT may sound like we are just cheapos that could just as easily buy things we need when we get up there, but there is one little, tiny pole barn of a grocery store there, which closes its' doors at 5 p.m. They only have two bar/restaurants that serve past 5 p.m. and they are horrible and crowded. The closest store is about an hour's drive on two lane roads with bear, moose, deer, coons, possums, etc that can jump out on the road without warning. We prefer to just relax and enjoy our cabin, campfire and Lake Superior.

All this preparation for your adventure actually sounds like a happy way to look forward to it.

wow, you do win all the time, and for me it says that there are a lot of people out there squeezing ever dime and if they have to turn in their CD, they are in trouble. That is such a shame, I worry about this myself as Larry has retired. But I do agree with you about taking it with you, I camped for many, many year with ex, and some of those stores really would knew how to charge, $6.00 for a gallon of milk and $5.00 for a package of buns or bread. Highway robbery, and there went your drawing money in a hurry.

We are to get rain/storms today, there are flash flood warnings in our area and it was hard to drive in the rain when we went to Bible study on Wednesday evening. There were pools of water on the road. After dark, I couldn't see them, and water would splash to the top of the windows.

I am glad you prepare for your trip. You don't have to run while you are there. I hope you have a wonderful time.

I banked some dividends into savings. One thing about being on Social Security, it is hard to find extra money once the check is spent. Since we are homeowners, I try to keep money for things that break down or repairs. There is never any money leftover from hubby's checks. Anything leftover from my SS check, I bank it. Hubby gets a VA disability check, SS, a Board of Education check when school is in session and he works the elections to get a check from them. He pays the bills and saves $0.

I notice that you get your projects done and put aside for the next thing/event on your list. You are a good steward of your money.

Congratulations on your win! We often bring a small satchel of supplies with us when we travel to the mountains. Have a great stay at the cabin!

I don't blame you for bringing your supplies with you when you go. We would do the same thing. I'm glad you finally got some rain!
