As I sit here this morning sipping coffee I think to myself all of the things that I have learned through the years about eating healthy, managing my weight, and in general trying to live a good holistic life. I know in my 20s that chasing my children, working 2 jobs, and general life business helped me maintain consistent weight but my diet was … well not healthy. In my 30s I decided that I needed to change so followed a strict diet and reported daily to someone where I was accountable and lost 50 pounds. Over the next 5 years I slowly gained it back. In my 40s maintained... tried to monitor what I put in my mouth but slowly, so very slowly the weight resettled upon my backside. Sigh.

So here I am in my 50s and still trying to learn. I can say that what worked in my 20s and 30s does not work now. So I have to change and adapt to this 50 year old body and what will work with it. 1st thing for me is health.. I walked 30-45 minutes 5 days per week. I monitor what I eat trying to focus on lean meats, fruits, and vegetables. I have also found another tool and after a couple of months will know the effectiveness of it. I am currently trying the 5:2 intermittent fasting eating schedule. Monday and Thursdays I eat between500-600 calories, drink lots of water and hot tea. I find that on those days that I lose weight... obviously water but I regain at least a pound of it the following day. Two steps forward, one step back is what I am hoping for.

I have a goal...and that is to be able to fit into my jeans... as well as play when I want, feel good overall, and keep active. One day at a time.

Those 500-600 calorie days must be hard. I like staying between 1200-1500 and getting my exercise and water in each day. We each find a plan that works. Good for you!
