Where Is the Danish? Back from a trip to Scandinavia.
Saturday, July 14, 2018
We woke up this morning from a trip with our grandchildren and daughter to Scandinavia. We were in Denmark for several days and every morning our hotels had pastry. In Spark fashion I added it to my calorie count. (One isn’t so bad really). They were extraordinary and after several days I realized why we in America call Danish, “Danish!” And today, back in Virginia, both my DH and I said to each other...WHERE IS THE DANISH?
We balanced Danish with lots of exercise which I suspect helped me maintain through out the holiday. I never weigh myself the first day after a vacation. Instead I nudge myself back to a simpler eating pattern that I know I can depend on and wait until my regular weigh in day to assess damage or success. It is unnerving for this maintainer to be far away from her usual menu, but neither would I want to miss the food adventures of another culture.
Denmark in particular had many healthy food choices and people must bicycle everywhere. But overweightness is apparently not just an American challenge as we saw overweight Danes.
The main highlights of our trip involved activities: biking, kayaking, walking—with our daughter and grandchildren. We do pinch ourselves—my DH and I—because while we work on our health we know it isn’t automatic to have it. As we live into our 70’s we feel very fortunate indeed.
So here we are in our biking clothes setting off on a trek on Bornholm Island in Denmark. We had a great time.
