Oy! Portion control!

Friday, July 13, 2018

I am trying to be EXTRA vigilant with measuring and the old weight watchers system. I thought I was doing really well eye-balling it, but apparently, I shouldn't trust my aging vision. (Every year, I need a new eyeglasses despite the fact I had perfect vision until age 40, but I digress..) When I actually measure, all I keep thinking is "Oy! Portion control...sucks!" I had lost my way with things like brown rice of all things. Who knew just how tiny and pitiful a serving is. Now that I am exercising more vigorously I am hungrier and craving more of my healthy carbs. The servings can add up fast!

Here I am whining, but yet I actually find it is easier to be mindful of food and exercise in the summer. The weather is warmer which manages my hunger a little. My kids are much happier and less stressed which I find contagious and my workload is lighter. While my husband's workload has been consistently awful all four seasons, I do think the sunshine cheers him up.

My thoughts wander into how on earth I will be this vigilant when life is more chaotic, but then I remind myself of the theme of my last blog...Focus on each TODAY! Well to an extent..I am a planner, so I need to peak ahead for that, but then I need to jump right back to TODAY.

So TODAY, I shall end my evening with air-popped popcorn focus on the victory of getting in good exercise this morning and staying in my points range. I may write in my gratitude journal.

Definitely focus on the present. I hate to measure too but if I don't Kaboom! Glad the kids seem to be doing well. Summer does that

… .I think you said it best in this sentence: Focus on each TODAY … I have found this is the secret too; yesterday is gone forever, and tomorrow has not yet come, so do what we know to do today. I bet you will do well!

Being mindful is half the battle. Having all you can eat foods like veggie soup, helps. emoticon

During the summer it's just much easier to eat healthy. There are so many fresh fruits and veggies that taste so good. I've been keeping containers of sliced veggies in the fridge for snacking, which sometimes turns into the meal itself. I agree with Kathy, more things to keep me busy in the summer and away from the food commercials.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Sounds like an all around good day! I find it a bit easier to eat healthy in the summer too - there just seems to be more things to keep me busy and my mind off food. Also less TV watching which means less food commercials to remind me of all those really good (but really bad for you) foods just waiting for someone to bite!

Today is all we have right now. I, too, am a planner at heart and I find it very challenging when my husband says at 10 a.m. "we should go do this today" when I've already planned out my day pretty much minute by minute. But I'm learning!

I wish you a happy evening as well.

Yes, for sure we have to look @ this as a day-at-a-time process. I find it daunting to think of weighing and measuring for the rest of my life -- so I just DO it day-by-day. I am not good @ the eye-balling either. Stinks! But that's reality for me for sure.

    HUGS and hang in there.
