Ready to change my food

Thursday, July 12, 2018

I have been overwhelmed with what I shouldnt be eating and what I should be eating. What diet trends I should try and ones I should stay away from. So here we go...

With veggies I need to eat the above ground ones because the below ones have more carbs in them. I can still eat them but just a few times a week. Then when cooking them you obviously want to steam or roast them. I love roasted veggies. There are also certain veggies I want to eat a lot of; celery, leafy greens, broccoli, asparagus, artichokes, spinach, and cabbage. Those are a mixture of high fiber and gut healthy.

Fruit I need to eat fresh and stick mostly to berries, bananas, and apples. Also gut healthy and fiber. Focus on serving sizes and aim for 2 servings a day. I shouldnt be drinking my fruit but I do want to stick with drinking 6oz of cranberry juice a day.

Sugar is pure evil!!! We eat to much sugar here in the States. Im going to give up coffee because I like it mostly sugar and creamer. We will also save money there because Im the only one that uses creamer and I can make a smaller batch of coffee. Im also giving up donuts, pastries, cakes, pies, cookies, chips, crackers (except for when I have chili YUM), bagels, muffins, cereal, candy, and Im sure there is a few other things full of sugar and carbs.

Im also giving up pop and anything that comes in a bag or box. Those are full of sodium and who knows what else. Im also giving up dairy, kinda. Im not going to drink milk anymore, Well chocolate milk because I cant drink white milk unless its with a chocolate cake or gooey brownies and there has to be ice in it. The colder the better. Im giving it up because of my PCOS (hormone thing) and for the health of my gut. Also giving up yogurt because it has extra sugar in it and after everything it doesnt have it healthy bacteria in it anymore. I can make my own or research and taste test everything but I rather just take it off the grocery list and save the money for veggies. I will NOT give up my cheese but I will reduce it and buy the better cheeses.

Im going to start eating more fermented stuff too. Its great for your gut. I also love me some sauerkraut. I also want to have 2 vegan/vegetarian days each week and eat more fish. I also need to cut back on pasta and bread.

Now with all of this said I am NOT going to give everything up 100%. I will have my small slice of cake when the family does b-days. I will have my half of a cinnamon and raisin bagel once a month. I will treat myself to my creamy cajun chicken pasta a few times a year. Im not stupid. I would go CrAzY if I give things up completely.

We live just off a highway so 5 minutes away from us we have around 40, yes that many, fast food places. When we first moved in we ate out a lot and it has been hard to break. That was 11 years ago. We have become depended on those places when we have been busy, forgot to sit something over, and just lazy. Out of everything I think this will be the hardest to change.

For you guys that are curious, here are the restaurants / fast food places:
Marcos (pizza)
El rancho grande (mexican)
Applebees
Popeyes
Chipotle
White Castle
Skyline
Five Guys
Fire House Subs
Tacobell
Cicis pizza
