The search for balance...

Sunday, July 08, 2018

Just when I think things are finally going to settle down a bit...

A change in work...location this time. It’s actually a LOT closer to home and less than a mile from the Y. Theoretically, I’d only be working the floor 1 day a week and would have the othe three days to do all the clinical coordinator stuff. Yeah... not reality. More on the floor, staying late to get the other stuff done, finding all sorts of interesting “challenges” along the way. Haven’t made it to the Y yet. Addressing some unrealistic expectations—you can’t have your cake, eat it, and expect to lose weight. My boss isn’t clinical and has an enormous amount of pressure on her. Silliness abounds. You can’t make some of this stuff up. So....

What would balance look like for me?
-Up at 4, at work by 5:15 (first patients come in at 5:45)
-Actually take my 30 min for lunch without working & eating at the same time
-Leave within 30 min of the last patient. Make a list of what needs to be followed up on the next day and who I can delegate what to.
-Go to the Y on the way home. Go directly to the Y.
-eat a light supper, shower, and get lunch/snacks and clothes ready for the next day.
-In bed by 9. That would give me 7 hrs sleep, but is a lot better than the 5 or 6 I’ve been getting.

Days off...get up w/Hubby at 5:30 (during the week) and about the same time on weekends. Yard work, grocery shopping, food, prep, exercise, straightening house, working on various projects. To bed by 9.

Okay...seems reasonable, especially compared to current chaotic mess.

And so this next phase of the journey begins......

Yeah... miserable place to work. Changed clinics last December. That worked out well until one of the other nurses quit and we started getting more patients. That lead to some 17 hour days, burnout. Heading back to hospital nursing 11/11!

That sounds like a great plan! How's it going?
It's great to hear you're working closer to home.
I'm blessed to have a short commute, but the big gap between my theoretical job and the reality still presents a challenge. I really need to step back and take a hard look at things.
You continue to inspire me! Be well and let us know how it's going.

The hardest part of having a plan, for me, is implementing it! Did send an email to the bosses to get that mess straightened out...I hope!

    Good planning.

I have 'new routines' on my list of things to do this week (I have a week's holiday from work). The 'various projects' get side-lined, don't they?!

I hope the new job isn't too mental!
