Being responsible to myself

Tuesday, July 03, 2018

I have been a diabetic in denial for over 20 years. Because you Don't see the internal damage diabetes does, you don't take it seriously. Well, now 2 years later, I do. I got so rundown that I had to quit work 2 years ago. I am now taking not just pill twice a day to lower sugar, but I also have to take daily injections of insulin. I also am starting to suffer with nerve damage to my feet. The damage is irreversible. I spend most of my days sitting or sleeping. My energy levels are terrible. Two days ago I rejoined spark people. I have done laps in our pool the last 2 days and today I started to do some water exercises. If I want to enjoy any quality of life I must take control of my actions and be responsible to myself. This is only day 2, let's try for 7 days of accountability in a row.

SP really works when we follow its suggestions. I find the water consumption to be important for results. Many times the challenge is not easy but the reward is well worth the challenge. We look forward to hearing how your progress is going. Please advise of future success.

Yes, you do have to take control now. I was in your place and sometimes I lapse and over indulge even now. But, I joined Sparkpeople and my most important number is the daily glucose number. I have gone down from over 150 to around 120 and a few days even 117 in the last 18 months. The weight came off as the number went down as I was watching portions, counting calories and learning so much more than I did in nutrition classes.. YOU CAN DO THIS.. Just keep on trying each day. You are so lucky to have a pool to use.

Welcome to the site that has changed and saved my life.

One can't make a new beginning, but one can begin to make a new ending. Look in the rear-view mirror only to stay safely on the path going forward. You will prevail and feel better for it.

I am glad you are changing the direction you were going and you can. There are lots of new research on dealing with diabetes. I hope you will take the time to really look at the new research that is available and that you have a doctor willing to work with you. Another great move is coming back to Spark with the rest of us. This is such a great support system.
