morning cuppa spark - july musings, 1100 blogs!

i love round numbers, and noticed from the mobile app that yesterday's blog was #1099. so of course it is time for #1100! and this morning a headline on the sparkpeople start page caught my eye about the value of weight loss blogging. number one is accountability. and that has certainly been one of my main motivators. this spring i was losing my oomph - not to mention a time crunch - but concentrating on living the values i've set for myself. but, a little accountability never hurts...

so in keeping with yesterday's travel blog...

food: planned what we would eat - airplane food is so bad nowadays, and airport food is not much better - and neither one of us likes to eat at 6 in the morning. so i picked up our favorite "travel sandwiches" at whole foods (a vegan one for me, and a turkey sandwich for my sandwich hating DH) which we have come to include on our trips home from seattle so we don't have to make OneMoreRestaurant stop. they work on planes too. i brought our favorite snacks - cherries, pistachios and a nut mix that DH puts together at home. had the sandwiches, nuts, cherries in a little carry bag for wine bottles - worked well! restaurant meal last night - credit given for saying no to the deep fried appetizer plate. papaya salad and green curry. yum!

weight: water weight from travel, salt from restaurant. not good today (scream!) but it will go down.

exercise: managed 10,000 steps. disappointed DH who wanted OneMoreWalk, but i was exhausted, having been awake since 1 a.m.

life: i often read on planes, or do soduko, but this one had free streaming movies if you downloaded an app beforehand (remember the days of overhead screens? or even seatback screens!). i watched two movies - one exciting, one chick flick - the best part - the movie was still running as we landed and the final scene was just as we hit the runway! i hate when you get to five minutes from the end of the movie and the crew has to turn off the entertainment system:-) not sure if that is really permitted, but it didn't seem to do any harm, and the time passed. first movies i have watched since december...

today we will visit my dad. it will be happy sad...

and i will apply the LifeRules i've adopted from beck, from spark...

    I hope your visit with you father goes well. I enjoy hearing about how you prepare for your travels. I have learned a lot from you over the years. Still using a couple of the recipes you mentioned. Have a safe and happy trip!

    I'm impressed with your travel planning! I usually try to pack food for airline trips as well; works well on the outgoing journey; less well on the return trip (where I usually don't have my kitchen or refrigerator to rely on). I am impressed with 10,000 steps on a travel day, good job!!!

    You are right about the food on planes and in airports. You would think someone would catch on that many people don’t want to eat like that anymore. You know how to handle this...way to go!

    I so enjoyed your morning cuppa! Actually a couple of cups. I Spark pretty regularly but somehow missed your check in blogs, so caught up today. Spark friends can be so real. The message and motivation I get from you is that life just goes and we have to do what we can, when we can to stay healthy. Getting in all the steps and nutrition can come almost naturally "easy" at times and with such struggle at others. You keep me grounded knowing that sometimes life presents obstacles but we cannot let that become an excuse. I have found several Spark friends that I reached the ultimate goal weight and fitness level, but still we must persevere to maintain. With life, age, etc... We have to adjust reboot, reset, and sometimes just change our goals and that's okay as long as we keep striving. Thanks for the updates. I know it's for your own accountability but you are Sparking me on!

    I have been motivated by your travel food planning for years now! Smart moves!

    So smart to bring your own food. Traveling is tough enough without having to find healthy food.
    Geting in 10,000 steps while on the go is a challenge. We know we'll feel better for having done so.

    I like hitting the sushi bar at Whole Foods for travel food - brown rice veggie sushi and Thai spring rolls are my go-to.

    My DH travels a lot. And he is constantly talking about how BAD the airline food is and doesn't like the restaurant foods either. I generally pack a sandwich for him and some almonds to tide him over.
