A Personal Challenge: Back to Basics
Thursday, June 28, 2018
There's nothing like changes in my health and well-being to get me motivated.
This past year, filled with some minor illness, some family stress, and our anniversary celebration, as well as several trips - one overseas - has contributed to my practicing some sloppy eating behaviors.
Specifically, I overdid it with sugar.
For me, that is a real problem. Too much sugar over an extended period of time leads to real physical problems for me: low energy levels and a general sense of being ill.
The low energy levels prevented me from walking regularly.
My weight has gone up only a few pounds, but my metabolism has changed.
I have gone from feeling cold most of the time to feeling hot.
My endocrinologist did the usual annual comprehensive bloodwork last month and it shows only slight changes - out of the normal range by a couple of points - for LD cholesterol and A1C.
The doctor attributes it to the slight weight gain.
I know that it is mostly from too much sugar over the course of 6 months -- that caused the slight weight gain.
I have scheduled another appointment with him in four months. By then, I plan to have gotten those numbers back into the normal range where they belong -- and the weight back down again too.
I also want to get my metabolism returned to the normal cool, cold self that I prefer.
So, beginning today (yesterday, really) I will be here on Spark People taking advantage of all the resources and the networking to help me accomplish these goals.
This is my own personal four month challenge: Back to Basics.
