One Day at a Time w/5K Pix

The pictures from the 5K Natalie and I ran-walked on Saturday have been posted, so I will share. I told her that when I used to run with her cousin Martin I'd slow to run with him the whole race and then he'd sprint past me at the finish. She thought that would be fun:

I'm glad I did it and am looking forward to making the next 2 Watermelon races fun for both of us. These "races" are just for fun and fitness, helping Natalie develop some cardio to help her with dancing and gymnastics. But I'm going to get serious and start training for the November 10th Red Ribbon Half Marathon. In that one, I want to run well. I'll just take it one training day at a time and see.

And thinking about one day at a time, right now I'm trying to lose a few pounds and it seems so slow, even though I am actually doing well. Seems like I had quite a few years that I'd gain a pound or 2 or fluctuate 3 or 4 and lose it within 3 days, a week at the most. But I've been working on this now 6 weeks and I'm not there yet despite only very minor deviations from the food plan. I can see why in years past when I had 50 or more pounds to lose, I got discouraged many times and gave up. But this time I also remember that when you stick with it, that persistence will eventually pay off. So I intend to. And I hope to remember, top of mind, how tough it is to lose, so that I work harder to truly maintain after I lose 2.2 more pounds. Getting to my goal weight will make it easier and more fun to run, too!!

    You are truly generous and caring, allowing your relatives to beat you to encourage their enjoyment of running. Especially knowing your competitive nature! Well played!
    Weight loss is so frustrating and much, much harder when so close to goal. I wish you luck with it, you have got it before.
    Suffered a setback to my fitness (so used to this routine). My toe which has been infected four times is ulcerated and I have to keep off it to let it heal for at least two weeks (she will evaluate it then). I am used to getting 200 plus active minutes a day and this is a crushing blow as this is our oh so short summer season and I love getting out on the trails. I also got bursitis of my shoulder on my good left arm and can't even exercise my upper body now!! My physical revealed I have shrunk some more (collapsing vertebrae) and I wonder if I should lose weight to reflect my new shorter height under 5'4" (used to be 5' 6").

    Fun finish photos! Glad you and Natalie had that time to share together.

    You know that the slower the better for weightloss because your body has time to readjust. Losing it too quickly will only set you up for rebound both physiologically and psychologically. I think that's the mistake I make when I let the scale go up too far. I just scream, "get this weight off me, now!" That's when I diet down too fast then...well you know the cycle. So stay focused and only incorporate habits you can keep. I can only relate because I've been there many times. I love the part where you talked about feeling discouraged 50 lbs ago! Wow, how far we have come! Or should I say "overcome"!?! Keep it Marsha! Just 2.2 lbs away no matter how long it takes...its practice in maintainance while you wait for the scale to budge.
