Motivation in the mirror

Thursday, June 14, 2018

This morning I had an earlier time with the coach. He relies on my being able to change what time I come in based on cancellations... so normally I'm his last client of the morning, but this particular morning, that last appointment was at 9:15!

So I was fresh off breakfast, barely digested, got there in time to do more than 20 minutes on the elliptical, and in deference to the warm and humid day, had gone tank top, no sleeves. Done with the warmup, he pulls me over in front of the mirror to do upper body work, chest press, bent over rows, bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, shoulder presses... all in front of the mirror.

And what do I see in that mirror? Muscle. Lots of gorgeous upper body muscle. Yes, I'm disturbed by the excess around the middle (due to bad behavior with food, yes, I know)... but I love seeing those sculpted shoulders, arms calves ... and I nodded and said, "Not bad for 65!"

So, yes, I found a bit of motivation in the mirror at the gym this morning. As several others have noted recently, feeling good about oneself somehow makes it easier to keep taking care of oneself.

And yeah, I'm fighting the allergens... medicated. Went and picked up my packet for Saturday's 10K... which is predicted to be HOT. Even with a start time of 7:30 a.m. the hourly prediction is for 79F. Every year.

And... I'm a great-aunt again. Niece #2 bore son #2 on Tuesday, and he's a cutie, as are most healthy newborns. His grandma called me early yesterday to clarify kitty care duties for her stint of helping out the growing family next week.
