Cable/Internet Problems

We have had cable/internet problems since the evening of Tuesday, June 5. When I'm home I connect through our Wi-Fi network to avoid data charges since we have pay as you go phones so not being able to connect to our Wi-Fi was very annoying.

On Wednesday, DH made a couple of calls to the cable company and I physically went to the cable office to exchange the modem. We started to get intermittent cable but because DH's health prevented him from changing the modem until Saturday afternoon we still didn't have Wi-Fi. Then after making another call to our cable company a service call was scheduled for Sunday, June 10. Unexpectedly our cable/internet service starting working later Saturday evening, June 9. Since it was still working Sunday morning DH canceled the service call.

Tuesday morning June 12, all of our cable/internet services went out again. Because we weren't home during the day, DH wasn't able to call the cable company until Tuesday night. When he finally got through to a "real" person and explained everything that we had been going through for over a week another appointment was scheduled between Noon and 1 pm Wednesday, June 13.

The service tech arrived on time and to make a long story short found nothing wrong in the house although he did change all the connectors and installed a new box where the cable comes into the house because all the wiring/connections is almost 18 years old.

When the tech went outside to check the cable he found some type of animal had chewed the covering off the cable and almost chewed through the cable. (Our cable was never buried underground in our backyard and instead just lies on top of the ground closed to the back of the house and under the deck.) We were very surprised to hear that we possibly have an animal living in our backyard under the deck.

Four hours later new cable had been run and a wildlife control company had been here and set a trap. As of Noon, Thursday, June 14, nothing has been caught in the trap so we will wait and see. In the mean time I have to catch up with my emails as well as all the other sites I follow. I am so glad to final be able to connect to our Wi-Fi network and watch my TV programs.

This is the woodchuck that was causing all our cable/internet problems.
