Taking the blood pressure challenge
I'm taking part in the Going For Zero Campaign. There is a family history of heart attacks and strokes, and I don't want to see this pattern continue with me. I work hard at getting in my exercise and eating right. Now I'll step up my plan, and monitor my blood pressure (BP) every week for the next 6 weeks. Today's BP is 125/78. I have done this in the past but stopped. When the Foodie Physician, Sonali- she is using my medical and culinary backgrounds to create healthy and delicious family-friendly recipes.

Sonali also motivates me to make good medical decisions like monitoring my BP. Her advice on food has taught me the following: 1. Follow a well-balanced diet filled with lots of nutrient-dense, whole foods. 2. Limit the number of processed foods. 3. Eat in moderation. 4. Maintain an active, balanced, and fulfilling lifestyle.
5. Cook at home as often as possible. 6. Enjoy delicious food and be happy!

Checking my blood pressure at home is essential to preventing heart disease and strokes. My goal is making sure that I have accurate results. I believe that my numbers are not just numbers. They’re information about my body and my heart and your health. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, impacts roughly 46% of adults in the United States. An accurate and consistent picture of your heart’s health is an important step to controlling and regulating your blood pressure.
