Checking in!

Wednesday, June 13, 2018

I have written down what I ate today and will record it tomorrow, I am basically just checking in to be loyal to my commitment. I spent the morning at the best food pantry in town, Living Hope Ministries (which is a church). I am not Christian, I am Jewish, but I think this church serves one of the original intended purposes of Jesus, it is NOT an institution nor is it a direct handout. Part of the reason it's the best is that you get A LOT of food compared to other food pantries, and the second is that every single recipient involved in the process contributes labor and also perhaps makes a financial donation each time, once a month. An extra dollar was requested since I was accepted (there is a huge waiting list) and other than this month, I have been giving it because the pantry there requested it to beef up their food supplies. $400-$500 is the projected amount needed. It meets monthly and I do not attend the prayer breakfast, but they are so kind because I can't do much with my poor balance (which is aggravated by the medication I take to travel in a car)--I usually get the chore "Sweep the co-op" but this chore is assigned to several people and sometimes I dust and sometimes like today, I hold and empty the dust pan! I was grateful today, because even though I only took 1/2 my medication for the car, my balance was very off in some cases. I am really glad I didn't take the whole pill! I would have needed to sleep then.

I didn't do anything this afternoon but sleep, because of the medication but also because the heat has arrived! It was 105 degrees yesterday, I can only imagine what today was. It's coolest in the front of my apartment, where the AC unit is in the wall, not my bedroom. I woke up at 5:30 pm and thought it was 4:30. Poor Harleigh, my little cat has a lot of black in her fur, yet she was the one who felt cool enough to insist I get up. I ate a really "naughty" lunch from a SP perspective before napping--think what the Peanuts gang ate in their Thanksgiving special and you have some idea! I actually got a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables, and two premade salads, and of course bread. I only wish I had eggs and my almond milk, but I have enough for at least a week, and then some.

I have been knocking myself out exercising this week--did 5 miles Sunday and 5 miles yesterday. I am buckling down, because I need to get back to the weight success I had achieved with SP prior to an attack last year. I just have to be really careful in the summer because I feel better with my disease but if I over do it, I can cause myself to have an attack/episode. And I really do not want to re-start again by resting for months and then doing only chair exercises. I want to start from right here!

So tomorrow morning I expect to really put in some exercise effort with Leslie Sansone (as much as I can safely) and then use the cooler front of the apartment to do kitchen chores, because I have a lot of vegetables and fruit along with bread to portion and to chop up and store in the freezer. All the while making my regular recordings in SP that I usually do. See you all then!

Impressive that you are walking that much given your medical issues.

Just a thought (not sure if I mentioned this before) - when I belonged to a coop, my schedule didn't give me time to work in the store as my time contribution. So I ended up typing up the monthly newsletter as my volunteer work for them. Maybe you could do something like that instead of sweeping?

Sounds like you managed a very productive day. The food pantry sure sounds wonderful. It was hot here yesterday too. Not sure how warm it go; but, certainly, over 100 degrees. It is in the mid-90s now and it feels cool.

I'm so glad you have access to such a good food pantry and I'm certain that you are just the kind of person that they are eager to help. Sounds like you got some good food.

It is very hot here and I don't like it. I hope this is not the new norm for Spring.

    Good job on the exercise.

Your dedication is inspiring. I wonder if exercise has any positive effect on the Menieres? I guess it can't hurt, and it is great that you are doing it. 5 mile walk? Wow, you've got me beat!

Your food pantry sounds like a nice place to be, and belong to. The spiritual aspect overrides the individual religion in this kind of setting. I was raised Catholic and have been long lapsed, but at one point tried some other churches. I guess I am just an individual with my own spiritual orientation.

    Keep going, you're doing wonderfully.
