Day Twelve: Fairies not Elves!

Saturday, June 09, 2018

I have long wanted to build a fairy garden in my backyard. Not the commercial ones where you buy all the pieces and set things out, but one created from pieces I've found in thrift stores, antique stores, etc. Well, Phase One of the fairy village (aka "Narniarose Town") is complete. Fairy sites currently under construction include a fairy beach (aka "Faerie Isle"), a Saloon ("Tinkerbell's Tavern"), a gas station ("Peter's Pay and Pump"), a town square, a haunted house (home of the Banshee), a train station, a post office, and assorted fairy homes. These have been treated with marine varnish to help them endure the weather. Phase Two has started which includes me raking out trails in the back of the house, killing weeds and assorted small trees in the way, putting down stepping stones and clearing out the "lots" for the fairy sites. I had to halt Phase Two because I was attacked by descendants of the Fomorians (aka mosquitoes) who were eating me alive. I will return after dousing myself in fairy dust (aka bug spray).

So my fitness for the day was spent in doing something extremely fun, but also a great workout. Yay for me! Stay tuned for pictures as the construction continues!

Love it! Our city neighborhood has fairy gardens sprinkled here and there. It's become a tradition to "add" to your neighbors.

Mine was recently visited by aliens and a flying saucer. My neighbor gained a new flagpole and some deck chairs.
