This is Blogging week for the Spring 5% challenge and it just so happens it is a vacation week for my family and I. So here I am, shamelessly blogging for points while contemplating the fudge and salt water taffy my husband purchased yesterday-- UGH! We are at the Jersey Shore and enjoying a somewhat cool but relaxing time at the beach with misty rain and fog not putting a damper on our spirits! It is so nice to be together in a place that we've been coming to for 25 YEARS!
We all have our favorite eateries down here at the shore. Not to mention bakeries, ice cream, candy shops, etc., etc. Which brings me to the SPRING 5% CHALLENGE and the Sparkpeople website in general. I have been a Sparkpeople member for many years and I KNOW that I need to be part of a team in order to focus on a healthy lifestyle in any and all situations. Happy times, sad times, hurting times and feel good times... they all need a little extra special attention, sometimes a lot of attention and I get that from my team at the 5% Challenge. I am admittedly one of the more quiet members of my team but that's OK there is never any pressure, just a lot of TLC floating around on the forums.
There are numerous teams in this challenge and we race one another around the world to various exotic locations. I'm hoping the Jersey Shore makes it to the Summer Challenge list of destinations- LOL I've been doing this challenge for a number of years on and off and trying out different teams. I think I have found my perfect fit in the Spirited UnderDawgs. Everyday I can log in and find something "laugh out loud funny" with this team. They lift my spirits and behave like "DAWGS".
Soo.... Simply Put- overtime I have come to realize that I behave much better when I am part of a team. When I am on a challenge team I will lose or maintain. When I take a break, I GAIN. Sometimes I gain a lot. The directive is easy- STAY in the challenges and stay engaged. Yes, I am quiet but I stay as active as I possibly can and the Spirited UnderDawgs give me the motivation, focus and love that I need.

Addendum: As for that salt water taffy, I was going to throw it into the ocean but my friend's daughter, the marine biologist, told me that was not an environmentally sound idea. It could, after all, clog the blow holes of the dolphins we watch swim by!! DH will have to eat it all without me- Sigh! Now...what to do with that fudge... ???
BTW- My friend's daughter is a newly graduated marine biologist who just settled into her first real job on the coast of Maine. Just north of Portland. She was wondering why there are chickens with sweaters and booties running around on the beaches. This phenomena was not part of her biology education. SHE HAS HER EYE ON YOU DIANE!!
