Lurking out there...

Every so often I need to back off of all the things that need doing, and think a little about the big ones.
One is to take concrete steps to doing the Appalachian Trail through hike. If I'm going to do that next Spring, the planning starts now and the training starts now. The training is less physical (though helpful) than practical - what stuff will I want to carry? and trying that gear out on short test hikes. This particular goal hangs over me, getting more impractical every year, but never becoming impossible. Still, I'll be a geezer when I make my attempt.
Another is to enable effective joint management of our finances. No problems there at present, but, as a retired couple, no fundamental way to improve income aside, perhaps, from being a successful investor (which requires a discipline I don't have). But doing a better job with some of the simple problems of money management is among my goals and something I'd like to accomplish.
A third is to complete the rehabilitation of our house and see if it will serve as a home (or do we need a different place to live in retirement?). This house has been a rehab project for over five years. We need it done. We'll be visiting there soon, and my personal goal will be getting the woodwork clean and varnished.
Finally, there's the concept of productive work, whether as a volunteer or an employee. Emphasis on productive. I'm doing some volunteer work at a medical center but it's inconvenient and not really very productive. Something more local and more impactful seems to be needed. Will look into that in June.
A short list, but heavy. Makes putting out the trash look really simple.
