Blog 91... Be Realistic

Sunday, May 20, 2018

As a teenager I was in a big hurry to lose weight! I wanted it yesterday! I was trying to lose 30# in a month! I did lose close to that but didn't feel that well and I didn't keep it off forever! My metabolism slowed down and it was harder to lose than ever! When I did cave in I binge eat and put 3 back on! I had a lot of learning to do! I became a yo-yo dieter! Today I want to lose weight slow but steady and I want it off permanently! I do feel I have the time to play around with this due to my health issues! A personal goal for me is 1/2 to 1 pound a week! Changing up just a couple of things for me should give me this results! not starting tomorrow; starting right now!

If you want to keep it off permanently, try to do only what you really think you can do year after year. It is much easier to get tougher after you get used to doing something gentler. If you're too strict too early, there is no where to go if things stall. (BTW, metabolism will always slow with weight loss. Slow is usually better because it helps you make the new habits solid so that when you get there, there is less fear of going back to the old ones. I have adjusted my eating down and more healthy as the years have gone on. I slip sometimes, even for a few days, but I never fear going back to my old habits consistently. This is how I live now.

    Warmest wishes!

I think step-wise may be the key,
The odd plateau or slight increases before further downward movements.
Our makeup usually conspires against continual steady losses(altho some people do very well with this, others not)

Slow and steady are by far the way to lose for longer lasting results. I think that anyone can muster up enough will and fortitude to lose pounds in the short run. But to make lasting changes requires more profound actions. You're on the right track.
