Thought and Prayer for Saturday, May 19, 2018

Saturday, May 19, 2018

We may have heard someone call another person righteous. Their intention may have been to say the other person seems to believe he or she is better than others. However, that is the world’s definition of self-righteousness. God’s definition of righteousness is when we live to obey Him and choose to do what is right because we love Him. If we want to be great in God’s eyes, we need to strive to be righteous. We need to do what is right according to His word, have faith in Him and live our lives according to His will.

Romans 5:17b “But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.” (NLT)

1. Write ways God wants you to be righteous.
2. List the things you need to start doing today.
3. Know God has many great gifts for those who love and obey Him.
4. Trust in God, seek His will and obey only Him.

Dear Lord, we pray You will help us to remember to live our lives according to Your will. We want to do what is right. We want to stay in Your word. It is a constant battle being pulled in the direction of the world. Rather than reading Your word, we choose to watch television or get on the Internet. Rather than praying, we choose to talk to our friends. Rather than, giving to You and others, we choose to use our money in ways that are not pleasing to You. Show us, guide us and help us to live the righteous lives You have called us to live. We want to please You and to be a right example to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We are righteous in God’s eyes when we choose to trust and obey Him.

Romans 5:19 “Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.” (NLT)

Proverbs 21:21 “Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor.” (NLT)

Hebrews 11:4b “Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith.” (NLT)

We are made right by God through our faith in Him.

Galatians 3:11 “So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, ‘It is through faith that a righteous person has life.’” (NLT)
