in Canada, we call this Victoria Day weekend--
When I was a kid, we always sang,
"The 24th of May, is the Queen's Birthday, and if we don't get a holiday, we'll all run away"
The Queen mentioned was Queen Victoria--way before my time, but, we admired her anyway, as she gave us a holiday--or so we thought!
Victoria Day weekend is when all the Provincial Parks open in Ontario--probably in Canada.
That means, camping begins--cottages open , schools are closed , a long weekend and summer begins.
Summer meant "running free", riding our bicycles like hoodlums, all over the town of Port Stanley, where Mom and Dad's cottage was.
And at Port Stanley, on Lake Erie, was the main beach, with a Board Walk, and that meant ice cream, ------and ---BOYS---
Dad used to nickname all the boys who hung around the cottage, with my sister and I.
There was "Horsey Bill", (He worked at the stable)- "Skip the Drip"--who always came walking up the beach skipping stones into the lake in front of the cottage--"Mudgey Bob", with his old car-----and then--"Fred the Med" eventually appeared.
So, summer is finally here---even up here in the North-
The geese I guess, are not aware of the lakes being open, because in their minds, they must know that we are still in for some cold nights.
I'm fighting the fat -STILL----- but--it is a weekend, and if Megan Markle can look so trim , on her wedding day, surely to goodness I can try harder to spark the best day ever---
-to skip the sweet potato fries---eat fresh green veggies, cook healthy meals all weekend, and be happy and patient with Himself--
Lord Love A Duck -One day I will be almost 90 years old too---
---I HOPE ----
