Starting my day exercising along with videos

Friday, May 18, 2018

Way back when I was in my 40's, I was in an exercise research study that included doing 45 minutes of aerobic dance in the morning before work. There were two excellent instructors, great music, and a room full of women having fun while keeping fit. I loved it.

Now that 47 year old who danced before work and jogged on the weekends has become a 77 year old graduate of a P.T. balance program. The gym has been replaced by a space bounded by my bed, my desk, my keyboard, and a daybed. The large group of women has dwindled down to a couple people who exercise on tape behind or beside the instructor. The fantastic music is now a single tune that marks the beginning of each video and may or may not continue throughout the exercise. But it gets me moving and sweating and feeling great. I love it.

Currently I am exercising to 11 videos which I have included in the "my workouts" section of the Sparkpeople video section. Some of the 11 are ones that I have used for months and yet am still enjoying them because I notice improvement in my strength, flexibility, or balance as I keep working on them. A couple are very new to me and I am still struggling to hear and follow the instructions in hopes of finally getting through the tape successfully.

I have listed the 11 videos in three groups--I do one group of videos each morning in the order listed. If I follow this routine 6 days a week, I get through each video twice. The videos listed are ones that work for me at this time. Every few weeks I try out a couple new ones and if I like them, add or substitute them. There are hundreds to choose from, so I will have a lot of variety for a long time to come.

3.56 minutes--Skinny Girl Yoga Warm Up & Stretch (Bethany Frankel)
6.06 minutes--Total Body Sculpting: Barre, Part 1 (Coach Nicole)
11.18 minutes--Cardio for Beginners: Cardio Dance (Petra Kolber)
10.25 minutes--Total Body Fitness: High Energy Strength (Desi Bartlett)
31.05 minutes total

4.49 minutes--28 Day Boot Camp Cool Down (Coach Nicole)
7.22 minutes--Ageless 360-Degree Core (Kathy Smith)
10.35 minutes--Cardio for Beginners: Cardio Burst (Bethany Frankel)
10.13 minutes--Total Body Sculpting: Strength, Part 1 (Coach Nicole)
32.19 minutes total

10.53 minutes--10 Minute Crunchless Core Workout (Coach Nicole)
8.35 minutes--Ageless Barefoot Balance (Kathy Smith)
11.56 minutes--Total Body Sculpting: Strength, Part 2 (Coach Nicole)
30.44 minutes total

Note: whenever I change out a workout, I will edit this page so it is current with my program.

Good for you! Katy Smith has been one of my long time favorite instructors -I have many of her DVD's. My favorite is her walking DVD Matrix style. It uses weights so get ST as well as cardio. It has great music and a desert background which is wonderful to see over the long col winter months.
    Keep on being amazing!

    Thank you for sharing this.
I am 66 and find myself exercising way less than I have most of my life.
I am committed to it and spend 4-5 hours a week on the treadmill or elliptical and another hour or so strength training but I can feel myself getting bored with it.
Spring is finally here and they have swept up the gravel from the roads....it will help me to get back outside.

So glad you posted this. Hopefully I will be encouraged to try exercising again. Several physical ‘reasons’ have stopped me for time. emoticon
