Summer is approaching...

Friday, May 18, 2018

Summer is approaching at the speed of light. Seriously. Next Monday is my kiddo's last day of 4th grade.

I know, right?!? I can't believe it's here either.

That means we have to shake things up in my world. I spend the summer break teaching things that she won't likely learn at school or building on skills preparing for the next year. We won't have many days like this left.

This summer our wellness program includes learning about her changing body (yeah I'm cringing), building her culinary skills further, and of course being active. We swim a lot and practice Yoga. This year yoga will focus on Sun Salutations.
The summer education will include reading the suggested summer literature (I read when she reads), learning to write a book report, and practicing cursive writing. I've got some star gazing thrown in there so we can enjoy the occasional late night. Math skills will be taken to the grocery store. She's going to help me keep within the budget.

That sounds like a lot, but it's really not. We only do "table work" for about 30 minutes per day. Part of the list is life skills. Something every kid needs to learn to be able to "adult" when they decide to leave the nest. Yes, I know she's 10, but building the skills of a long time helps make them second nature when they need them.

So what are your summer plans with your kiddos, aside from any vacation plans? I'd love to hear them!

I love your plans--so much empowering and entertaining potential there! Brenna is such a lucky young lady! I love that you are preparing her for life, and not just excelling in the classroom, though that will also get a boost by your activities. And learning about her body--SO important!
You are totally world's emoticon mom!

Wow you sound like a great mom!! I do a lot of those things with my grandchildren, but we mostly run around chaotically as I watch them try to get into things they are not supposed to get into. Lots of swimming, playing, and general happiness :)
