The number one food rule in Michael Pollen's book Food Rule. It seems like a no brainer, but is it? I do not think so. Ever since I took a culinary course about 10 years ago and one of the assignments sent me to the grocery store I became aware that the majority of what is on the grocery store shelves does not really classify as "food" but rather food-like products.
These food-like products are highly processed and contain ingredients that are made in a lab and not by nature. I remember how I stood in amazement in the grocery section looking at all the junk food that was on the shelves. To me, it became apparent that finding real food on those shelves was going to be a treasure hunt.
Just go to a grocery store and look on the shelves for canned or jarred real food. You'll have to hunt for it because it'll be hidden among products that have a bunch of stuff added that you cannot pronounce or have any idea what it is.
So today, eat food, real food.
