May 17 Read Acts 7 We are all stiff necked people

Stephen's discourse is brilliant on level with genius. He begins with the father Abraham, recounting the history of the nation and hitting on all the great highlights. I imagine the elders are smiling as he tells the stories of Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. But when he gets to Moses some of the smiles are gone, perhaps there are some frowns. And as he speaks of how the people rebelled against God by disobeying Moses there is anger. The comparison of Jesus to Moses was not lost on them and likewise they were a stiff necked people, unwilling to accept what God had given. It's not our sins that keep us from God, it's our stiffness and pride. The path to God is humility.
