Motivation Mondays

Monday, April 16, 2018

Every Monday for the past few months, I have woken up and said, okay, this week, I am going to get back on track. I am going to log my food. I am going to do all of my workouts. I am going to avoid late night snacks and stick to sweets and alcohol in proper moderation. I am going to get back on track.

I am able to keep this going Monday and Tuesday, and then by Wednesday I start to flag. Thursday isn't great, and the rest of the week I have mediocre effort at best. It doesn't help that winter seems to be dragging and dragging on -- we've had hints of warm days and then it drops back down -- it's supposed to snow tomorrow! I really want to get outside to run and bike and swim instead of sticking to the dreadmill, e-bike, and pool. I know I just have a few more weeks until the semester is over, and I keep thinking about my race schedule this summer -- my first race is my YMCA's yearly 5K on May 6, which will mark the 1-year anniversary of my first ever 5K. My first triathlon of the year is in June, and I want to do at least one more in July, and possibly do some other 5Ks. 10Ks, or triathlons over the course of the summer. I know that I need to start kicking it up a notch if I am going to do all I want to do this summer, but my motivation only lasts half the week. It's just enough to keep me at maintenance level with the weight and fitness level, no more.

Part of me says, well at least I am maintaining, but I know I can do better! I am just waiting to rekindle the "spark" and get my butt in gear. I have high hopes for the summer!
