Overcoming Pain

Sunday, April 15, 2018

I'm wondering if any of my Spark friends are having or, have experienced severe pain in the hand and would know how to overcome this. I began feeling this type pain a month or two ago and just assumed it was arthritis but all of a sudden the pain has become much worse and feels like a throbbing pain at times. I saw my Physician on Friday and have an appointment with a specialist on April 23, but right now I'm thinking I may call and see about moving it up if possible.

The pain area for me is like the illustration on the right and those three fingers are affected. I am wondering if I have overdone with weights or other things I've done working at home.

    Sorry to hear! Not fun!
Yep! Hand pain mostly in my thumb lower joint area. Not enough pain to see doc. Limits my grip strength. Since its both hands and what I've heard mine is probably tendinitis or beginning arthritis. Adjust grip for daily tasks and weight training...

Wise decision to see a doctor. My guess is small steps of anti inflammatory meds, therapy, brace...forgoing surgery until all else fails.

High hopes that you will find relief! We are blessed to live in a place with beyond adequate healthcare if affordable.

Yup: hand pain requiring replacement of left thumb joint by surgery, osteo related -- not a surgery I'd recommend: plus carpal tunnel (that surgery on both hands much more successful).

Very very painful and ongoing actually -- and like you I love to golf. Also weight lift at the gym where I've had to significantly modify grip on machines rather than using free weights . . .

Best of luck and I agree that a specialist appointment asap is absolutely indicated.

I did experience some relief through physio including hot wax treatments so you might try that too.

I have pain in the fatty part under my left thumb. I think it is bursitis. Curious to see what the doctor says.

I hope that you can figure this out. I have had both hands operated on for carpal tunnel which I put up with for 11 years. I had a tendon release surgery in one hand which was more painful than anything else and I have torn a tendon in two of my fingers which required another surgery. I also have arthritis in my thumb, but that is the least of the pains. The carpal tunnel pain was pretty bad at first, and it was in the same place that you seem to indicate.

That's a bummer. Hope you can get your appt moved up so you can get some answers. I wonder if it could be some form of tendonitis in your wrist from all the golfing you do. Could just be so inflamed it's causing the pain to radiate down your hand. Hope you get some answers and some relief soon.

It sounds like carpel tunnel, but I am not sure. I suffered with that, but it was usually at night I would wake up with pins and needles and pain in the same area. The doctor gave me a brack that I would wear to bed. It eventually went away. Of course, now I have osteoarthritis at the base of my thumb. Some days I cannot open a jar grip anything. This getting older is for the birds....

Hope you find out whats causing the pain and are able to get some help.

Sorry you are suffering this pain. I would have guessed arthritis as well. I'm not sure what it could be but keep us posted. I agree I would try and bump the appointment up if there was a cancellation. prayers for healing and understanding to you. emoticon emoticon

I realize this may sound strange but doing dishes with lots of hot water 💧 plus range of motion exercise helped me
