British TV

Monday, April 02, 2018

I love watching British mysteries, my local public broadcasting station has a UK channel. One of the things I love is that the characters look like normal people, they aren't all thin and beautiful. They come in all sizes and while they all look great, it isn't the polished American ideal.

Even the sexy siren is often zaftig. Pretty and well dressed, men falling all over her, and not remotely thin. I guess across the ocean women aren't all expected to appear thin, toned and surgically preserved.

Father Brown is portly, Bunty is full figured, as is Mrs. McCarthy. On The Coroner, Jane Kennedy's mother and her boyfriend are round and happy and real. I could go on with all my favorite UK shows.

Why can't Hollywood take a page from England?
