Taking Control - Aspire to Inspire Blog

Saturday, March 31, 2018

One of our blog assignments this week for our March BSG challenge for the Aspire to Inspire spark team is: March 30 is “I Am in Control Day.” Today is the day to get your life in control. It’s your day to get things in order and under control. Is there something in your life you need to take control of? Describe plans you will make to get any aspects of your life under more control.

There are a couple of rooms in my house that I need to get control of –

the computer room and

the craft room.

My husband passed away 11-12-13 and ever since then I have been saying I need to clean and organize the computer room, but it has always seemed too overwhelming so I have not done much of anything towards that goal. Well, this year I decided I would make good use of my tax refund and purchase wood flooring to replace the carpet in my computer room. I purchased it and my friend, Bob, has told me he would install it.

So, in order to have the flooring installed, it has required me to get everything out of that room. I have taken everything out of the desk drawers and off the bookcases and off the closet floor. All that is left is to move the two desks and one bookcase out which Bob will help me with.

When I moved things out, I just focused on getting things out of the room. My plan is to sort and discard things as I put them back in the drawers and shelves. I have already gone through some of the clothes in the closet and donated those to goodwill.

Now, since I am feeling good with the progress in the computer room, I want to do the same thing (minus new flooring) to my craft room. I don’t even like going in there right now because it is such a mess. I can’t start on this project until the computer room is back in order, but once that happens, I plan to do the same thing to the craft room. I have so much stuff in there that I think my only hope is to move everything out and start new.

Taking control of your computer room and crafts room can be daunting but it sounds like you have started the process. Going through everything and deciding what to keep can be a pain but I'm sure you'll do well. Good luck getting both rooms organized! emoticon emoticon

New flooring would definitely be a motivating force. You're off to a great start. Good luck with going through things and discarding what isn't needed. Once you have the new flooring in and see how nice and organized the room is, you'll be inspired to continue in the other rooms.

You are on your way to being control of both those rooms! I certainly know the feeling of overwhelm when it comes to knowing where to start. I felt that same way about my office in PA with tons of school files, papers and memories. Moving was the thing that motivated me, and your new flooring did it for you! Good luck with both projects, one step at a time!
