How I Do It today....

Sunday, March 25, 2018

I am maintaining a weight loss of almost 100 lbs since Dec. 2009. How in the world do I do it? Well, here ya go...

Since Nov. 2008, for protein I have eaten white meat chicken, fish, and turkey. Beef is something I'll eat maybe twice a year as a treat. As far as veggies go, I eat lots of veggies fresh from the produce dept. They are almost always cooked. I'm not into raw myself. I do eat a lot of salads, mostly spinach. My snacks are usually fresh fruit. I love it, and we have access to such a wide variety. For bread I only eat 100% whole wheat. There are tons of healthy eating recipes here on SP. I use them a lot to keep the meals new and exciting.

When I was in the weight loss phase of this journey, I ate 1250 calories a day. I have used a food scale and measuring cups to make sure I only eat a true serving since Nov. 2008. That's what makes my calorie count accurate. During weight loss I gave myself one cheat day a month. On the first of the month I ate whatever I wanted as much as I wanted (except for sugary foods. None of that because I'm diabetic.) The cheat day was the only day I did that. I was very strict with myself.

I have walked almost every day since Nov. 2008. I started walking 20 min. a day, and worked up to 60. I still do that daily. Sometimes I do Pilates too.

That's it in a nutshell. This process will never end. I must remain committed to my healthy lifestyle. I can't say it's been easy, but I'm telling ya the work has been totally worth it! I have my health today. I was literally dying when I started this journey.

Of course this is just the physical side of what I have done to lose the weight and keep it off. There is also the mental and spiritual side.

I hope this may help someone who needs a little hope, a hint at where to go from where they are right now.

If I can do it, so can you!

This sounds very doable and sustainable, recognizing that doing it is where the 'meat' is. Thank you for sharing!

You ROCK!!! Thank you for sharing how you've lost and maintained for so many years. You're right - what you did and continue to do isn't easy, but it IS worth it. To go from literally dying to where you're at is quite a testimony!
