Beck Day 12 Report

Thanks for great blog comments yesterday. Yes, there was a time I did intuitive eating for about 11 months, but I couldn't even do the new WW program (that has 200 foods without points) without gaining, so I'm afraid that is out for now. I'd say for the past 5 months I typically have to deal with quite a bit of hunger to stay within the range I want AND I've gained 5 pounds during that time. Not sure what has changed. Will give it thought. Thanks again. Have tried to go back to foods that used to satisfy me, but not successfully.

Yesterday, breakfast was satisfying and I recorded no hunger until noon, when I rated it mild. One o'clock was still mild. At 1:30pm I noticed that although the intensity was still mild, that I felt the hunger just under my ribs where it had been the day before, but the mild hunger spread to a full circle from under my ribs to just above my belly button. At 2pm my stomach was gurgling (most people would say rumbling, I suppose). At 2:30 hunger was moderate and I took a walk to distract myself and enjoyed the outdoors. I did not eat, but the half hour 3-3:30 my hunger was none to mild. No hunger from 4:30-5:30, but I was beginning to feel some weakness/shakiness. Then I ate supper -- gratefully. So the exercise worked this time just right. I waited out the hunger and it went away. (After supper I dealt with heavy desire to eat, some cravings, sleeplessness again, and then hunger.)

As Beck says, hunger is not an emergency. I can wait to eat when I need to.
