Starting Again

I am coming to the end of my caregiving for my sister who has total knee replacement. Coming up on 6 weeks away from home. I had a lot of hopes for nutrition and exercise, but realized in the 2nd week that I needed to lower my expectations.

First of all, I wasn't getting much sleep. Whenever she went down for a nap, so did I. My nights were filled with bedpan care - 2 to 3 times a night. So interrupted sleep did not help with food and exercise.

I must say I didn't go overboard on the food, but there was....ice cream. Switched to sherbet. It was the comfort food. I did fix healthy meals because she is not a healthy eater. Needless to say, she didn't like a lot of what I fixed. But she was grateful. She wanted fast food several times so I picked what would work best for me. I didn't lose any weight in February, but stayed the same.

Things are much easier now, so March will put me back on track. I have planned my meals and started exercising when I have a chance. That mindset makes me feel better already.

My husband comes next week and we will leave for a week to take care of our grandson in Iowa. Then it will be back here for a few days and, finally, HOME. Eight weeks away from home is a long time.
