I don't get it!!!

I am up! Every time I get on the scale it is more and more. Up twelve pounds! I eat more veggies than I ever have. I have walked more steps than I have since I nearly died a year ago. To the point the next day after more steps, I sleep the next day from being too wore out. I drink lots of water! 8 to 10 -8 oz glasses of water a day! What am I doing wrong. Today I was frustrated, missed my favorite butter pecan ice cream so had some for snacks. Just didn't feel like I should keep busting my butt for gains. Well, for someone who gave up, here I am, blogging! I don't want to give up on myself. I want to lose weight. I want to improve my health. I want to win this fight within myself. I want to believe in myself. Believe that I CAN do anything I want to do. I am not able to work anymore. I am fighting for disability. I just can't give into my life completely. I deserve to be happy and healthy. I can't change my enlarged heart, diabetes, thyroid disease, asthma and so on...lol..but I can change my weight. I just need to find my working lifestyle change. Doesn't mean I can't have my ice cream, it just means maybe a .5 cup and maybe sugar free!! See, blogging does help!!!

    WW is a really good program, expensive, but worth every dime. I lost 50+ pounds with their help. I've gained some back, but not all. Every day is an opportunity to move forward with better eating habits.

    I know it's discouraging, but don't give up. Talk to a dietician, dr, whatever, and even if you're not losing, eating healthy has got to be better than eating unhealthy. Thnaks for comments on my blog.

    I do understand how frustrating it can be. (I have not been able to understand why i work my tail off and the scale doesn't budge ... i know w/ ST muscles are being bulked up so i just keep going. I do think perhaps a visit and talk w/ your Doctor may give insight. Best wishes.

    Thank you Mary 51 and ATHLETELORI! Yes, I do take two types of insulin three times a day, plus 2000 metformin a day. I have an appointment with the doctor this coming week, for other concerns so I will discuss my concerns as well. I had a specialist tell me once that until my diabetes numbers are under control I won't be able to loose the weight. I stopped drinking soda which is the week I lost some weight. I have also cut way back on bread and completely stopped pasta. I thought those would be game changers. Water gain could honestly be a part of the problem. Thanks for the support and advice. Not giving in or up!

    Karen, perhaps you should start with your doctor and make sure that there are no underlying causes for the extreme weight gains. If you retain water, maybe a water pill will help. Ask him about it. Also, ask for a recommendation for a good nutritionist if you don't already have one. She/he will work with you in resolving issues you are having. Make sure you like the nutritionist you see, as it can make all the difference. If you retain water...cut salt intake drastically and use other spices on your food. Cut the fat some. If you are on insulin, this can cause weight gain.

    I wrote the above because I had the same problem, though I went up 4 lbs. (many times) after having a great week. It was a combination of all of the above. I was eating bacon and more meats to make up for cutting carbs drastically (not a good idea lol). I had stopped taking my water pill at the time and my cardiologist said that I had 7 lbs. of water weight (legs, ankles swelling) and to restart the water pill, which I did. Per my nutritionist, who is also a diabetic and knowledgeable, increased my carbs some and decreased my protein. I monitor my sugars more in case of lows. I am loosing, slowly, and that is ok. My insulin has been decreased. I don't exercise yet due to arthritis in feet and knees and of course weight. I am eating fish at least twice a week, usually tilapia and tuna fish (now with light mayo or Miracle Whip neither of which I cared for before, but now like). Also, for snack, find something you enjoy, but fairly low carbs. I have Dannon yogurt every day or a whole wheat Matzo (spell ?) with apple butter, or even Kellogg nutrigrain bars 25 carbs. Has to be something you enjoy. Sorry for this long-winded response, but I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck.

    Don't give up. I have given up many times and gained a ton of weight. You will figure this out. Keep blogging! I blog when I'm frustrated too. You can do this!

    Thank you MAYAPAPAYA13, DAMAMAFIVE11, EVIE4NOW, TNCOUNTRYLIFE, for your encouraging words and tips. I need to replace the battery on the kitchen scale. I will measure better using cups and spoons. I won't give up! I really appreciate your support. Hopefully I will figure this all out soon.

    Our body's sometimes have a mind of their own. I think especially at our size. It is very discouraging when the scales are not showing any movement. Water retention plays havoc with me. Muscle does weigh more then fat. You say you are walking more so you may actually be losing size measurements and the scale measurements will follow in time. Hang in there and try to stay positive!

    Have you read the article of over exercising? Also, do you have a kitchen scale? I was absolutely SHOCKED by how much I was over eating when I started measuring out portion sizes with measuring spoons and scales. Just keep going! You’re doing great!

    It sure does help sharing your thoughts. Watch your portions because any food.. protein, fruits, breads. pastas and veggies can cause weight gain if you are eating too much.
