Fasting: Reasons and Grocery Haul

Sunday, March 04, 2018

The reasons I got into fasting because my weight started to creep up after being on the plateau for several years. Then my boss came back to work after an extended leave. The boss likes to have a Fri team building lunch. The problem is not only that it's expensive to eat out, restaurant foods are really crappy AFAIC. I was depressed about the situation until the idea hit me that I could try fasting to counter the bad Fri lunch. Once I had success with the first weekend fast I never look back.

As I suspected, today the stomach complained more than the previous 3 weekends. Now I have learned the fact that human can survive at least 60 days without food. So two days is nothing. Don't make me laugh! The more the stomach complains the better because I just tell the hunger to 'eat your own damn fat'.

So I went grocery shopping and doing food prep as I normally do on the weekends. In the pic are 2 roast ducks, purple sweet potatoes, broccoli, bamboo shoots, avocados, oysters, cilantro and taro root. I don't see hunger will win today but I will know for sure by nightfall. I'm looking forward to enjoy breaking my fast on Mon morning. Thanks for reading.

I think your plan is awesome, and the food looks great! In fact, you plan is very en pointe with regard to current metabolic science. Have you noticed any specific change is your body/metabolism since you started the fasting?

I don't know if you've encountered Dr. Jason Fung, but I think you might really appreciate his blog: Intensive Dietary Management. He wrote a great series on fasting:

In the last year, I've personally done several water-only 6-day fasts, and two longer ones 10/11 days. I love how I feel when I'm fasting, and I love the health gains even more.

I'm looking forward to hear more about your fasting experiments!
