March 4 2018 - So GLAD it's March!!

Sunday, March 04, 2018

Had to go to a new doctor as the one I had for many years retired and closed his office. Haven't needed to go as (so far) I'm really healthy (for over 1 1/2 years) but I needed a refill in prescription. Can't decide if I like this one or not as he has a whole different bed side manner to him but he was highly recommended by friends who do go to him. One of the first things they do you know before you even see the doctor is take your blood pressure and weigh you. Over the last year and a half it looks like I'd gained 5 pounds - ugh! I haven't done anything different - no food changes - no exercising (since when? My 2016 post maybe??). I wasn't happy but I didn't think too much of it. THEN when talking to the doctor he asked me "Do you exercise?" I said "Well I walk" He said "Well do you walk for exercise?" I hesitated (didn't know if I should tell a white lie or just be honest) and I said "Um no" (Gawd I hate honesty!!!!! But a Scout is Honest) This was the first time I had been asked about my weight from any of my doctors - kinda stung - but maybe if my previous doctor had asked me I wouldn't have gained the weight I had - maybe.

So this is how bad my walking is - I have a Fitbit (for 2 years now) I've gone from the suggested goal of 10,000 steps to 4500 and don't even make that most days. I've quit going to the Y (it's been over a year now) and my outside park walking has ceased.

So what have I done since my doctor's visit? Well I've been more conscious of what I'm eating and have begun tracking it (never tracked my food before and I track on MyFitnessPal which tags in with my Fitbit which I don't think Spark does as I didn't see it on the App) but I also have the Spark App. I really haven't changed eating so much because I wanted to see if what I was eating was a problem and most times the note that came back was - If you keep eating like this you'd lose 5 pounds in 5 weeks" - so maybe it isn't my eating habits that are that bad.

I also walked 1 time in the park to get myself back to WANTING to walk - only 1 time because the weather hasn't been good enough yet to walk more. I also stopped into the Y to see if my Silver Sneakers was still good and it was (yeah I know I whined about the weather but have an indoor gym that I can utilize FOR FREE)

At least I'm tracking my food everyday now and I'm so glad it's March and there are sunnier days and my spirits are lifting and I have a doctor that apparently notices that I'm overweight and without saying anything but said something and I'm AWARE that with him not saying anything he said something that I've listened to (if that made sense)

So here's to continued tracking - more walks (for exercise) in the park - upping my daily step goal and maybe hopefully begin to lose some of the weight I've gained

So GLAD it's March!!

I had doctor's appointments two days running in the same office (both my PCP and GYN are there). I gained three pounds in one day. I didn't think that was possible, but I'd eaten a prepared food with a high sodium content. Workers in the office attributed the gain to water weight. emoticon

emoticon Sometimes we do need an honest opinion as we already know what we need to do. Good that your doctor is concerned about your good health enough to want to keep it that way. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
