Needing To Focus

It was back in 2012 I joined Spark People and I was really happy and active using this great site to motivate and help me on my road of being a healthier person.
I changed eating habits, started walking and tracking faithfully to keep me on track. I could see the progress and people starting making comments on how I was loosing weight and looking good.
Then I started to build up a jogging programme - something I had always wanted to do. You know, get up early put on my shoes and just out the door and go for a five kilometer jog. I used to run at school and did quiet well in the long distance so that is what I was aiming to enjoy again.
I soon found I couldn't do it. I developed terrible pain in my knees. It got to the stage where I could hardly walk with out taking pain relief if I wanted to go a short distance. This just wasn't fair. How was I going to keep up my fitness if I couldn't walk or run?
My doctor at the time just told me after some x-rays that it was just degenerative knees that was normal for my age. Over a year or two I just gave up and the weight came back on and I just struggled with being obese - as my BMI said.
My husband encouraged me to talk to our new doctor about what was going on and he sent me for another lot of x-rays - this being 3 years later. His words when they came back were "Your knees are knackered!" The cartilage on the inside of both knees has gone and the outsides are thin. Again not what I really wanted but he said I needed to lose weight and I would qualify for knee replacement surgery. He suggested cutting out some carbs and not to eat bread, pasta or rice - without being too strict on myself and to try gentle walking again taking pain relief and anti-inflammatory tablets.
So back to what I knew supported me on the journey - here at spark people.
I don't see the people (well one or two) that were here before but I am making new friends.
And I have lost 5 kilos already.
Today I start a new challenge to help keep me on track.
