The Night My Treadmill Burned Down The Garage

Friday, February 09, 2018

I haven't blogged on Sparkpeople in a LONG time. Life has pulled me in all sorts of directions over the past two years. The past nine months have been focused on my mental health. I'm currently in my third program since last June - four hours a day, five days a week.

A couple of weeks ago (January 27th), I was feeling particularly low. At four pm, I finally decided that I needed to get out of bed and go on the treadmill for a while. I had a lot of negative energy that I needed to redirect. It was going okay, until the treadmill suddenly stopped and made a loud popping noise. I quickly jumped off and ran to unplug it.

I went to ask my husband to come outside to check on it and it was making more popping noises. So we called 911. Within ten minutes, the whole garage was on fire. It all happened so fast. The garage is a total loss.

I've been struggling a lot with nightmares since the fire. And all of our exercise equipment was in the garage so I have nothing to help me channel my negative energy. It's been tough.

This in combination with other major losses currently going on in my life, has hit me hard.

So, I've decided to get myself a Peloton. I've been debating for a while (because $$$), but I think it will be a great investment in my health. I need something to look forward to and I think this will help me be able to redirect my impulsive energy.

    Oh
    My
    Gosh!!!
This is so awful. And yet could have been so much worse. I’m so sorry. So glad you are ok though. I’m sorry that you were struggling with the mental baggage that came with this accident as well. Especially since you were trying to unload mental baggage in the first place by going out to use it. Big gentle hugs to you my dear...

I'm glad no one was hurt. Quick thinking to unplug and get out. I'm glad it was just the garage and not your home. emoticon
