February 6, 2018 BREAK FREE
When we are sincere, we are free. Why is that? Because when we are sincere, there is no pretending to be something we are not. There is freedom in truth. There is freedom in being real. When we pretend, we are doing nothing but setting up a barrier around us because we are hiding from the truth. Pretending and lying moves us away from what God wants in our lives. And we can’t be free when we aren’t sincere with others and with God.
Galatians 5:13 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” (NLT)
1. Write about a time you lied or pretended to be something you weren’t.
2. List what you did and what happened.
3. Know God wants you to repent of that sin so you can use your freedom to serve others.
4. Come clean with your lying and pretenses so you can be free to obey God.
Dear Lord, help us to stop pretending and lying to ourselves, to You, and to others. We know when we aren’t sincere and truthful in our dealings with others, we are going to be bound to this world and to sin. Help us to break through those binds so we are free. We know You tell us the truth will set us free. Please help us today to know the truth which is You and keep it in our hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we pretend or lie, we are setting up barriers around us because we have to hide in that sin.
We can’t be real with others when we are hiding truths from them.
God wants us to stop pretending and lying to ourselves, Him, and others.
We can’t be free when we aren’t sincere with others and with God.
When we stop pretending, repent, and turn to God, He will set us free.
John 8:32 “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (NLT)
God wants us to know Him and His truths. And He wants us to share His truths with others.
