February 2, 2018 BE AN EXAMPLE
So this sincerity thing. Why do we need to be sincere? What does it matter if we tell a lie here or there? Or if we pretend to be something we are not? Who is it really hurting? The reason is all comes down to being trustworthy and credible. If we have pretended in the past and others found out about it, we aren’t going to be a credible witness for God. If we aren’t sincere with others when they are in need, they aren’t going to listen to us and we aren’t going to be a good example to follow. Being insincere can lead others down the wrong path and show them the wrong picture of what believers are really supposed to do.
Ephesians 5:2 “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” (NLT)
1. Write how you are an example for God.
2. List the things you do that point others to Him.
3. Know He wants you to follow the example of Christ.
4. Remember to be sincere in all things and be a credible witness for God.
Dear Lord, we pray You will remind us daily to be a better example to others. Help us to remember to be sincere with those in need. Help us not to pretend we are something we are not. We know our godly example to others is extremely important because we are called to lead people to You. Remind us of the example we need to set in our daily lives with those we know and those we don’t know. We want to be sincere and live for You so others may see Jesus in us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We need to be a good example to others be being sincere because God calls us to live as an example of Christ.
When we live a life of love, we will live according to God’s will and not our own.
When we are tempted to be something we are not, we need to pray asking God to help us to not pretend.
If we lie about anything, it will be hard to be a credible witness for God.
We are hurting ourselves and others when we aren’t being the godly example we are called to be by God.
1 Timothy 4:12b “Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” (NLT)
We are called to be a godly example in what we do. If we have doubts on what to do, we need to follow the example of Jesus.
