Feeling Better

Sunday, January 28, 2018

So I had an epidural on Tuesday and I was able to do things like brush my hair, cut my food, and write again this week. I still have some pain, but it's been minor. My trainer on Friday decided we should work on my lower back muscles, to support the spine. I went to a concert that night and instead of my usual pain, I had lower back pain. Temporary muscle pain, I can deal with that. l am hoping to avoid surgery.

On another note, I had made a pact with a friend, back in May, that I could sort of use him for some scandalous reinforcement for weight loss goals. I found the list today and my weight from May is not too terribly far from where it is today. Maybe by next May, I can be below last years weight.

When I started going to the gym, after my injury, my trainer was like "in like 6 months, we can have you down 60 pounds". I was like, "look I have 3 disks hitting my spinal cord. I've gained weight laying around on muscle relaxants for two months, if I can avoid gaining weight and gain a little muscle, I am good". I'll take a little weight loss, but healing is my big goal. Sometimes breaking even is good enough. If this epidural works, this may be where we kick things up a notch. I think I need to talk to my spine specialist first, but I'd like to start moving a little faster if I can.

I hope you can have long-term good results from the epidural. I had a series of three of them and the last one was dreadful. The doctor couldn't get things lined up properly and almost punctured the lining of my spinal cord. I will not have another, nor will I have surgery.

Sometimes breaking even is a major victory. Give yourself credit for that. I will add you to my prayer list for healing.

Do talk to the spine specialist first. Pain relievers can be a double edged sword. Just because the pain isn't evident doesn't mean it's okay to step things up a notch. Not trying to discourage you. Just don't want you're spine injury aggravated.

I'm happy that the pain has subsided and you're able to do more things with less pain. Take care of yourself and emoticon
